Vegas Bound....a little bit earlier!

So, school is cancelled tomorrow, for the second day in a row. I'm not complaining. I'd much rather go another day at the end of the year when it is warmer.

When we found out that I wouldn't have to work tomorrow, we decided to see if we could get an earlier flight to Las Vegas. The flight we were originally going to be on didn't leave until 9:00 PM Central...which wouldn't get us to L.V. until 11:00 PM their time.

The first time I called today, they could put us on an 8 am, 9:30 am, or 11:30 am flight...but we didn't want to have to hustle that much to finish getting our things ready, so we didn't take any of those. Then, about 3 hours later, my friend suggested that I try calling back to see if anything had opened up. Sure enough, they could put us on a 3:50 pm flight which would have us arriving in L.V. at 6 pm. We made the change.

Now, though, my mind feels like it is scrambling because I have five hours less time to prepare. Of course, here I sit, posting on my blog instead of packing my suitcase! Oh well! I'll just wake up early and be really busy tomorrow!

Learning to Knit

One of my goals for this new year is to learn to knit. So, I signed up for a class at a local yarn shop. It is two sessions and the first one was last night. We learned the knit stitch...the continental version. At least, that is what the teacher started us all on. Then, if it wasn't working for people, she adjusted them to another technique. She said the continental version is supposed to be quicker. It seemed comfortable to me and worked out fine. If we were doing well with the knit, then she let us pick our own yarn and she cast on a scarf for us. We're going to learn casting on during our next class. I'm very excited. As you can see, I chose circular knitting needles. The teacher said it is all she uses... for several reasons, one being that she has smaller hands and they are more comfortable for her another being that the are more versatile than regular needles. Whatever the case may be, they felt good to me, so I picked them, too. The longer, regular needles felt more awkward for me! I'm jazzed to be working on my first project!

Kitten Cutie

Just a couple photos of Smokey. He wasn't real happy that I was taking his picture while he was trying to sleep the other day. And, a photo of the gate climbing, just to show how "talented" he is!

Haven't Posted for a While....

I haven't posted for a while, but then I also haven't done any new crafty things for a while, either. I did sign up for a two session "Learning to Knit" class that begins tomorrow night. One of my commitments for the year is to learn to knit. We'll see how it goes.

There aren't many noteworthy things occurring around here right about now. Last week, I arrived at one of my schools (I am an itinerant teacher), they let me in, and then promptly told me that they were on "lock down." I stayed for an hour and a half and then asked if I could leave since I needed to be at another school to provide services for another student. Luckily, they let me go.

Our kitten is growing like a weed. He gained a pound in the three weeks since he arrived at our house. He runs around the house like a nutcase, at least when he is not being stalked by the dog. He can make his way onto chairs, the bed, the desk in the office....

Tim and I leave late Friday night for Las Vegas. His old boss is getting married and we are flying out to be able to attend the wedding. It should be fun. Plus, it was an excuse to buy a new dress. Of course, it wasn't easy to find a dress for a wedding that is "not formal but not casual". I ended up with a dress I found at JC Penney for not too much money.... then ended up spending more than I paid for the dress to get a decent pair of shoes to wear with it! I also bought Tim a new button down shirt and a matching tie (coordinated to match my dress, too!)

Hyperbolic Ball

This is the crochet project that I was working on today. It is a hyperbolic ball. The term hyperbolic is a math term, I think, and relates in this case to the method with which the number of stitches increase on each row. Anyway, it makes this nice crocheted ball that I guess could be used as a shower poof. I thought it would be nice for using on dishes, but I think I made it a bit too big for that.
