Today I finally got around to sewing my Flirty Skirt. I had purchased the directions a while ago...maybe in the early spring...and just now finally got around to making it. I LOVE how this skirt turned out! I will definitely be making more.
I pretty much followed the directions that were given with the pattern. When I first purchased the pattern, I was a little disappointed when I realized that you need to have a skirt that you like the fit of to be able to use as your "pattern". I don't have any skirts like that. Then, I realized that I have a summer dress that I really like how the skirt portion fits, so I put that on, pinned near where I thought I would want the waist to fall, and used that for my model to cut from.
I did end up cutting three strips from my t-shirt to be used for the ruffle. I am not a fan of doing the baste, then hand arrange the gathering...so I bought a gathering foot for my sewing machine. It was the first time I used the foot, so I ended up with my fabric being a little more gathered that I thought it would be. I do like the way it turned out, though. Even my husband thought it turned out really cute.
Now that I have made this skirt once, I will definitely be wanting to make more. I think they will be great for just hanging around the house or running out to the grocery store. The skirt looks a little dressier than yoga pants, while still having a lot of comfort.

Very cute. I love the flirty ruffle.
How adorable is that! I love it - and the gathering is perfect. So unique.
Bonus - it looks comfortable too!
Ahem, it looks a LOT dressier than yoga pants! If it's comfortable, then all the better. It's absolutely flirty & fun ☺
Bravo on figuring out the model from just about nothing--you rock!
WAY TO GO!
I love the skirt! I got a ruffler foot recently too, and I love it!
Thanks for the comment on my blog too; my friend who sews with me is fun, she's the only one around that I know that sews... but she's just learning so we tend to talk through a lot of stuff and not get much done. You're from the chicago area right (says your profile) maybe we'll run into eachother at the modern quilt guild meetings (planning on starting to go to them), then we could sew together too. :) Happy sewing!
Your skirt looks great! I think I want a gathering foot for my machine too ;-)
I finally got your earrings mailed off. Sorry it took so long to get it done. I hope you like them!
Love the ruffles. Hmm, should get myself a gathering foot too. Saves precious time . Thanks for visiting my blog :)
Very snazzy skirt! Love it!
