I need a plan!
My craft room is out of control! It is supposed to be a spare bedroom, although it really is quite small. If we put a twin bed in there, we wouldn't be able to put much of anything else...I guess we could fit a double bed if there really was NOTHING else in the room Right now we have a wide chair that folds out into a twin sized sleeper.
Anyway, I digress. The room is out of control! I need to get some order.... I have a nice set of IKEA shelving cubes that are FULL. I do have some rubber stamp sets I desperately need to get rid of, but not really sure how I'm going to do that one. There is stuff on the chair....there is stuff stacked on the floor.... you get the idea.
A lot of the crafty items/supplies have an intended purpose. I am thinking that I should just wander in, pick up something that looks "interesting" at that moment and then work on finishing whatever that project might be. But, I'm not really sure that theory will work.... all the crafty-types know what I'm writing about... we, as crafters, have to be in the right mood for certain projects. If we are not in the right frame of mind, that project may never get finished.
But, I need some order. What to do?
*sigh* {mini-vent over}

Get a wipe-off board and place it somewhere in the room where you'll see it every time you walk in. Write a list of all the WIP's you've got that you'd love to finish and give yourself a deadline! I've never resorted to this but it does help to give it a final date. (like for the swaps I do). Hope that helps. Otherwise I use gallon size zip bags and grocery bags to neatly package up each project so that I can work on one thing without the others getting in the way! :)
I found the best ways to tackle my craft supplies is to sort them by category. Make piles. Even if you have to go into the hallway to do so.
Trash anything that is useless, bent, a scrap - just go for it - it sounds like you have a lot.
Then categorize what you have - stamps, paint, fabric, various papers, etc. Then decide how many bins you need and then buy the ones you do need. Don't buy bins or storage before hand - it works best if you figure it out first. I have heard this hint a hundred times and it is so true.
Buy your storage. Label it. Throw the stuff in and be done.
It is a lot of work, but I am not kidding - it works. Swear. You won't believe how much room you have in the room when you are done.
ex-fabric, sewing machine, scrappy gal. :)
I don't have any advice, but BOY do I understand the problem.
Sally, this is how my front porch is to some degree...it's an enclosed 3 season porch so I have my desk out there, 2 book cases and my crafts...right now it's hard to even walk in there...finding stuff is impossible and I really need to spend a day organizing. At the moment I have a ton of misc. skeens of yarn for the hats I make for the chemo lab. People donated several rubbermade tubs to me. I have made it through 2 of the tubs and still have 2 left to crochet into hats...but right now with the temps rising and such I just haven't gotten to it...Best of luck with your dilemma - I have no advice lol!
