Finished and Gifted.

I finished the quilt for my niece on Thursday night, after hours of hand stitching the binding.

I think I did a pretty decent job with the binding considering I had never done that before.  I followed this tutorial by Julie of Jaybird Quilts.  The binding came out exactly the correct size for the quilt and there was no way to tell when I had actually started stitching the binding on.  I already sent Julie a message to let her know how well the tutorial worked for me.  I also following this tutorial for the Invisible Ladder Stitch.  I am just very slow with hand work, so it took me quite a few hours to stitch the binding to the back of the quilt.

Did you notice that the cat had to get in on the photo shoot?

I also remembered to stitch on a little label for the quilt:

Of course, the post would not be complete without a photo of the birthday girl with her quilt!

By the end of the evening, Abby knew the quilt was hers and was tugging it away from anyone else who tried to "claim" it.  I'm so glad I was able to make this gift for her.

Hello! Thanks for the comment on my blog. I'm from the Chicago area too. Do you mind me asking what school you work for? Do you work for a deaf-ed program or a mainstream program? My daughter is almost two and as of now it's looking like she'll be mainstreamed, which we're really happy about.

Are you a part of the Chicago modern quilt guild? (http://chicagomodernquilts.ning.com/) I haven't gone to any of the meetings yet but it seems nice.

Happy sewing!
